My Goal: Preserving the Legacy of Al-Ahsa Pottery
Alaa Al-Rashed, an artist passionate about art and a craft trainer, has created over 150 handcrafted pieces for various entities across the Kingdom. Reflecting on her beginnings, she says:
"I started this journey when I joined the Craftsmen’s House as a trainee, a program under the Heritage Authority and managed by the Abdullatif Al-Rashed Humanitarian Foundation. My journey began from scratch, and by God’s grace, beautiful coincidences paved my way to achievements."
Alaa recounts her story:
*"I entered this field as a trainee without sufficient skills or experience. I underwent intensive theoretical training for two months before delving into hands-on practice, where I was tasked with creating multiple pieces. The beginning was challenging, filled with mistakes, but my ambition helped me overcome these obstacles. I turned questions into accomplishments and fear into extra effort to enhance my skills. I focused on self-improvement, correcting my mistakes, and adding my unique touch as an artist and painter. This allowed me to create a product that matched my aspirations for success, representing the Kingdom in a craft we take pride in.
My goal has always been to preserve this cherished craft, especially in my region of Al-Ahsa, focusing on pottery. I aim to develop it while maintaining its essential raw materials."*
Alaa continues:
"Having supporters among my family and loved ones played a significant role in my success and distinction. Today, I own a small workshop and aspire to expand it into a space for production and creativity. I strive to create products that reflect my personal touch and the identity of my hometown, Al-Ahsa. I have also had the opportunity to participate in media appearances, including interviews and features on outlets like Al Arabiya Channel, Al-Ahsa Magazine, and Al-Watan Newspaper."
Alaa concludes her story with advice to young men and women:
"Find your passion and work on enhancing your skills to achieve creativity and success." She emphasizes her commitment to being a guardian of Al-Ahsa's pottery legacy while striving to keep up with modern developments.
Alaa Al-Rashed is one of many women who have left their mark—not just settling for training but actively developing their skills to become ambassadors of success for their institution, community, and country.
Saudi Arabia places great importance on handicrafts.
